Describe briefly how the incident occurred: On 23rd of August Security Guard was on duty to look after Office area. At about 09:30 hrs, he noticed smoke coming out from office building windows and as he went to check the situation it was found that furniture, documents and others materials was burning and smothering. He along with co-guard who happened to be there, tried to extinguish the fire with the available fire extinguishers but failed. Then Security Guard informed his line supervisor about the incident and supervisor summoned to Delhi Fire Service by dialing 101 fire emergency contact number.
The fire brigade reached the site in about 10-15 minutes and took charge of the situation and brought the fire under control in about an hour. No one sustain any injury but there was huge loss of material.
Causes of the Incident
Immediate Causes: Electric short circuit seems to be cause of fire.
Root Cause: No regular/ proper inspection was done for the electrical equipment.
Preventive measures taken to control similar occurrence
To reassure that
- Use of electrical extension cords wisely
- Not to overload extension cords / wall sockets.
- Adequate availability of fire extinguisher and training of firefighting.
- Regular inspection of all electrical equipment.
- All electrical equipment working good condition.
- Check and ensure that power is not overloading.
